Sensei Dave Frank
Sensei Dave Frank began studying with Master Ron Proffitt in 1993 at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. He had always had a desire to study karate and when his daughter began taking it as a Physical Education class he saw an opportunity. Dave began teaching karatemore than a decade ago in his backyard, then moved to St. Peters Church in Highland Springs. In 2003 he began teaching at the Quinton Community Center where his class is today.
"I don't think you can stay in karate and become a black belt without developing a desire to teach," explains Dave.
Silkisondan Karate is a system developed by Master Nguyen, a 7th Degree Black Belt, which is based in the original International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) style of Tae Kwon Do. Master Nguyen studied a number of other martial arts and, many years before the mixed martial arts craze, Master Nguyen combined these styles into a balanced martial arts system.
Silkisondan Karate holds true to the traditional values of the martial arts.
Our instructors teach from a love, respect and passion for these traditions. Our mantra is "Karate for Life." Those who join our association will earn their rank at their own pace. And for them, the martial arts will become a way of life, a journey into ourselves, a journey of understanding. As Master Nguyen says, "Know yourself; Improve yourself."
